Which event is right for me?

Intro to Mountain Biking is great for those who have never ridden mountain bikes before or for those with very little experience.  It is designed to cover all the critical elements and give the client an idea of what to expect when just starting out.

The Fundamentals course is an in depth, extensive offering for riders that have had very little formal training.  It covers a large selection of elemental skills.  New riders can start off with a solid foundation and experienced riders can fill in gaps and learn how to progress themselves.  It takes place in a controlled environment.

The Extended Fundamentals course includes all of the regular Fundamentals content plus an additional session where we put our skills to the test on the trail.

Coaching sessions are for any level rider.  We focus on helping clients define and work towards their riding goals, one-on-one.  These goals can be skill-based, fitness-based, or anything in between.

Guided rides are for those that want to explore a new (or old) trail and could use the help of a ride leader who has been there before.

What certifications does Marshmallow have?

Marshmallow has the Best Dog certification.  The instructor has  BICP/IMBA instructor certification and first aid certification.

What should I bring to my event?

Bring your mountain bike in good working order.  Full-suspension or hardtail is fine, but hybrid, gravel, and cyclocross bikes are not recommended.

Helmets are mandatory, and we recommend safety glasses or sunglasses, gloves, and knee/elbow pads.

We recommend bringing at least 1 Liter of water per hour of your event, preferably in a hydration pack or some other form that is easy to carry on the trail.  Snacks are also a good idea.

What happens if it rains?

We do not ride wet trails!  It damages the trails and puts an unnecessary burden on our trail stewards.  Your instructor will contact you to reschedule if there is a bad weather event that requires cancellation.

How and when will you contact me before my event?

We will contact you through email by default.  If you prefer another method of contact, please make a note of it in your booking.

Marshmallow MTB will reach out to you as quickly as possible after you complete your booking in order to firm up details of the event.  Then, we will contact you again 3-5 days before your event to confirm.

What is your cancellation policy?

In general, you can cancel or reschedule your event any time 48 hours beforehand.  Please see our full cancellation policy for more details.

What kind of pedals should I use for my event?

For classes/instruction, flat pedals are best.  However, if you are more comfortable with clipless, that is OK too.  If you are a beginner and not sure about pedals, we highly recommend starting with flat pedals first.

For guided rides, use whatever you like!

Are there any age restrictions for events?

You must be at least 12 years old to attend an event.  Riders aged 12-17 must provide consent of their parent/legal guardian including on the waiver.

What kind of bike should I bring?  Can I bring my downcountry slopeduro dirt jumper e-bike?

Any safe and fully functional mountain bike is OK.  That includes full-suspension, hardtail, rigid, e-MTB, 26er, 29er, mullet ... as long as it is a mountain bike.

Unfortunately, we cannot allow hybrid bikes, gravel, cyclocross, road bikes, BMX bikes, or unicycles.

Under certain circumstances, we may be able to accommodate riders with dirt jumpers, slopestyle bikes, or certain trials bikes.  Please contact us if you want to use one of these bikes.

What if I am out of shape?

This is your event!  We will adjust the pace and difficulty to your level.  Your instructor will discuss this with you before your event and will communicate with you during the event and adapt to your needs and goals.  There is no minimum fitness or skill level.  We want you to be safe and have fun!

Can I rent a bike from Marshmallow MTB?

On a limited basis, for the Intro to Mountain Biking event ONLY, we have two medium full-suspension bikes that can be set up for you at an extra cost.  These bikes are suitable for someone roughly 5'4" to 5'10" and between 100-225 lbs.  If this is something you are interested in, contact us or leave a note in your booking and we will discuss it with you.

Unfortunately, we are unable to offer any other sizes at this time.  If you need to rent a bike for another event or require a different size, we can recommend several local bike shops that can help.
